| November 21, 2002 New construction was started today on the lot where Building number 7 of the World Trade Center once stood. The new plans for the WTC were presented and everyone seemed to like all of them. They were all thoughtful and useful designs. Architects from around the world presented their designs for consideration. No two designers have the same insight as to design. Each had a very appealing quality. All had a part of the site set aside for a memorial to the victims of September 11, 2001. Like the Phoenix, it will rise from the ashes to live once more. February 26, 2003 Today marks the tenth anniversary of the first bombing of the WTC in 1993. A memorial was placed at the site back then for the victims of that bombing. It was destroyed in the bombings on September 11, 2001. A new memorial marker will be placed at the site when the new buildings are erected. February 27, 2002 The new WTC design was announced this morning by Mayor Michael Bloomberg. The architectural firm of Daniel Libeskind was announced the winner. Mr. Libeskind is a Polish American whose parents were holocaust survivors. Mr. Libeskind was thirteen when his parents immigrated to the US. His design incorporates a tower with a garden that will rise 1,776 feet into the air. It is to symbolize the year of America's independence. There will be a memorial garden and part of the slurry wall (concrete wall that holds the Hudson River back) will be left for all to see. It may not be exactly as he envisions it by the time it is completed but will incorporate his ideas. No word as to when construction will begin and a designer for the memorial itself is still to be decided. The memorial will be 30 feet below ground on the area where the majority of the victims remains were found. If you would like to see his design go to your favorite news site. I use the New York Times web site myself. It has all the designs that were presented to the people of New York City. You have to register but there is no cost at this time. March 03, 2003 The Pentagon released the winners of the new memorial to the victims of Flight 77 today. They are architects Julie Beckman, 30, and Keith Kaseman, 31, of New York. Their design encompasses the flight path of the plane before it hit the building. The memorial itself will include, clear anodized aluminum polyester chairs, each with its own reflecting pool, that represent the 184 victims who ranged from 3 to 71 years old. The memorial garden will have many trees and will be a place for quite reflection for all who visit. The memorial park is expected to be dedicated on September 11, 2004. | April 27, 2003 The new World Trade Center is expected to open on the fifth anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks. It will be dedicated on September 11, 2006. The Millinium Hilton has finished its remodeling. The building was severely damaged September 11, 2001. The renovation took 31 million dollars. It sits directly across the street from the WTC. May 10, 2003 The Pentagon Library is back home after over a years absence. Damage from the 9/11 attacks and its after affects closed the library used by Pentagon employees. September 11, 2003 President Bush declares Patriot's Day on September 4. Services are held in many locations marking the second anniversary of 9-11-01. Please go to September 11, 2003 page. | June 15, 2002 The Deutsch Bank is the last of the World Trade Center buildings to be searched for remains. They do expect to find more remains of victims of September 11, 2001. The systematic search and removal should take about three weeks to complete. The brave men who have been searching and clearing for over nine months now are continuing their jobs and will be there until the end. Remember them in your prayers. They have a job not many of us could do. They have shown their bravery in so many ways. The Army Corps of Engineers have started taking bids for the new memorial at the Pentagon in Washington, DC. | July 16, 2002 Six models of perceived buildings and memorial at the WTC were unveiled today. All but two recommend the areas once occupied by the twin towers be made a memorial area. If you would like to know more about the proposed plans please visit http://www.renewnyc.com/index.shtml. A final plan for the site will be chosen in December. It is said it may encompass some of the ideas from each plan. July 22, 2002 A meeting was held for the discussion concerning the recommendations for rebuilding the WTC. None of the six plans were pleasing to the participants. All who wanted to attend the open door meeting were allowed to vote on the plans. There were over four thousand attending. No real memorial was planned for the center, just open green spaces. August 25, 2002 Lisa Beamer was on CNN (TM) with Larry King Friday night. She has written a book with along with a "Ghost Writer". The book is about her life on and after September 11, 2001. As you remember, her husband Todd Beamer was on Flight 93 that crashed in Pennsylvania last September. She is a very gracious lady. Her children are doing well and the little girl, now seven months old, is healthy, beautiful, and thriving. September 02, 2002 President George Bush requests the country to gather, pray, and remember all those who died September 11, 2001 on Friday the sixth through Sunday the eighth. Light a candle, attend a church service, gather with family and loved ones. Decide what is best for you and your family and friends. There will be many forms of remembrances on Wednesday, September 11, 2002. Some of them include an NBC special, "Concert for America", which will pay tribute to all victims and heroes of the attacks. Performers include Alan Jackson and Gloria Estafan. The A&E channels plan to scroll the names of all the victims continuously from 8:46 a.m. which is the time of the first attack at the WTC. In New York crowds will gather to hear all the victims names read and hear the mournful bagpipes at Ground Zero. This will be a sedate and dignified ceremony. Check your local listings. September 10, 2002 Nine trees were planted at the Pentagon today. They are in remembrance of the 189 people who died on September 11, 2001. October 11, 2002 A new group of architects was chosen to draw up plans for Ground Zero. They do plan to leave the areas where the twin towers stood vacant except for a memorial. I believe they made the right choice in doing this. The memorial chosen for the Pentagon will be made public October 17, 2002. |
