Writing and Computing
I am sure all writers who have tried to have his
or her work published knows how difficult that
can be. In this age of computers it can be
easier than it once was. More sites come on
line all the time to help aid in that process.
Try these Internet sites for a great deal of
information about writing and computing.
There are many articles on sites that you can
download and read at your convenience. I have
been getting newsletters from
http://www.techweb.com for many years. I find
they provide valuable information I can use.
You can connect to other tech sites from there.
Two other sites for computer technology are
http://www.techlearning.com and
http://www.utexas.edu/computer/vcl/ .
Many writers are having to become computer
users. The days of writing in long hand or
typing away on a typewriter are gone for most
of us. Many writers have web sites, e-mail,
and sell their own books from their web
sites. A good example of this is
http://www.crichton-official.com.
Never open any attachment without checking it
for viruses first. No company, including
Microsoft will send you an email with an
attachment to check for viruses on your computer.
Download all attached files and virus scan them
before opening them. The best thing to do is
keep your anti-virus software up to date and check
your system often.
The above link is to the Virtual Computer
Library. It is full of very valuable
information.

If you use any Windows operating system, a wise thing to do is
make sure your Windows Update is set up to alert you when new
patches and fixes become available. It is the best way to keep
your computer up to date and in good working order. Simply
running scan disk and disk defragmenter once a week will keep
your files in place and their strings where they should be for a
smooth running system. These utilities are available on your
Programs menu under Accessories.
If you have anti-virus software, and believe me you should, run it
at least every other day. Viruses can make your computer crash
and lose information forever. Some things can never be replaced,
once lost.

I receive information from Microsoft quite frequently. All the
answers to your computer questions can be found on their site
http://www.microsoft.com/.

Worms, virus's, and Trojan's, OH MY!
They are all around you and you don't even know it.
Online scammers and spammers have always used
trickery to invade your privacy and harvest valuable
information to chew on later.
Information about your account, updates on on line
accounts you may not even have, news about
famous people in the news, are only a few of the
email subjects and attachments these worms use to
trick you into opening email.

website.
