The last day of the search for remains at the Deutsche Bank across from the former Trade Towers ended with
little fan fare the twenty fifth. The last of the firemen left the site with sadness but with the attitude they had done all
they could to find the remains of their fellow firemen and others. Now is the beginning of their reality to what
happened over nine months ago. They have been very busy and had one goal in mind. Now they must get on with
their lives. Thank you all for all you have done.

A memorial service was held at the Staten Island landfill ending the over ten month search for human remains at
the site. Many families of victims were there along with the governor of New York state.

The names of all the victims will be etched on a steel and mesh wall that will replace the temporary one that has
been used since 9/11 to shield the site while it was being cleared.

A Brooklyn man, Albert Vaughn, age 45, was found alive at Rockland Psychiatric Center in Orangeburg, N.Y. He
had been declared missing since 9/11.

A man declared missing at the WTC was found in a hospital in Manhattan. The Newark, N.J. resident, George V.
Sims, age 46, has no memory of the September attacks and only vague memories of his family. He is suffering
from a mental disorder and amnesia. His mother always felt she should wait for a whole year for word of her son.
He was located on her 65th birthday. What a blessing and birthday present!

Last count of the missing and dead at the WTC is 2,819.

Congress met today in NYC to commemorate September 11, 2001 and show solidarity. It was the first time since
1800 that congress met outside of Washington, DC. Afterwards they walked to Ground Zero where a wreath
was laid. The members were led in prayer and given a moment of silence for personal silent prayer. "America the
Beautiful" was then sung by a local NYC high school student. All members of congress then got in line to put
miniature flags in baskets while a flautist played beautiful music. The mayor and governor of New York City and
New York state were in attendance at this ceremony.

I watched a program on APT this evening concerning the Canadians who gave food, shelter, encouragement and
most of all friendship to the Americans who were left stranded on 9-11. As you remember, all air travel was
stopped nation wide and no planes could fly into the United States for four days. Americans were left stranded all
over the world. I am sure all of them found kindness in their hour of need. I want to thank all of the loving people of
the world and especially the Canadians who have always given us support and have lost brave men in the battle
against terror.

Mozart's "Requiem" was played in twenty countries in different time zones and ended in New York city at 8:56
a.m. EST.
It was a day of remembering all the 3,025 men, women, and children who were killed on September 11, 2001.
Representatives of the five boroughs of New York City paraded towards each other while bagpipes played
"Amazing Grace" . All converged at Ground Zero. Governor George PatakiGettysburge "Gettysburg Address"
followed by the reading of all 3,025 victims names. Former mayor Rudolph Guliani started the reading of the
names then family members and some celebrities, such as Robert DeNiro, read the list in alphabetical order. Over
20,000 members of victims families and friends gathered at Ground Zero. They brought flowers and put them in a
large wreath made of boxes. Some chose to make their own memorial in the middle of the wreath. Later in the day
President and Mrs. Bush arrived at Ground Zero. They walked down the ramp and greeted all. There were no
speeches. The President and first lady talked, hugged, and generally showed great sympathy for the families.
A large sign at Ground Zero read: "The human spirit is not measured by the act but by the size of the heart."
President Bush started his day at the Pentagon gathering where many of the victims families, friends and
coworkers were present. He and Mrs. Bush then flew to Shanksville, PA to the services there. It was a solemn
service. Afterwards President and Mrs. Bush met and spoke with family members of the victims of Flight 93.
Be At Peace

Are they at peace now at Shanksville
Have their spirits soared above the sky
Did they see their loved ones praising them
man, woman, child
Did they know how many people loved them
The pain of a year gone by
Did they see the white doves winging
To where souls reside
Did they hear the bells tolling
Their names read out loud
The Blue Angels soaring
High above the clouds
I pray they are at peace now
With the angels and Jesus too
They died for all our freedoms
All of us, me and you
While President and Mrs. Bush were in Shanksville Congress met on the steps of the Capitol Building and sang
"God Bless America".
At dusk a candlelight vigil was held at Battery Park.
The day ended with President Bushes speech from Ellis Island with the Statue of Liberty behind him and an
American flag to his left. It was a truly dramatic sight.

The plans of both foreign and American architectural firms were revealed today for consideration for the new
buildings and memorial at the WTC. I viewed the plans on line earlier and I especially like three of them. The first
reminded me of the steel girders that were used on the outside of the former towers. They looked beautiful and
dramatic in the night picture. They looked bold, strong and very modern. The second one was very visual,
reminding me of people standing over the site. They were strong but no imposing. The last one I liked was from a
purely spiritual point of view. It was a true monument to all who lost their lives on September 11, 2001. They are
just steel frames, tall and graceful but a strong reminder of what happened that day.
I know the one that can fulfill both the aesthetic and functional will be chosen. New York City is a world city and it
is a place of new thoughts and commerce. I know no one alive in the US today will or can forget but our children
and grandchildren may have to be reminded of the world changing events of September 11, 2001.
January 22, 2004
The officials in New York City announced officially the number of deaths on September 11, 2001 as 2,749.

A funeral was held today for a New York City fire fighter who was killed on September 11, 2001. Keithroy M.
Maynard's remains were carried to The Church of the Master while Amazing Grace was being played. A fire
engine, draped in black and purple bunting was followed by hundreds of uniformed fire fighters.
A memorial service was held for Keithroy Maynard before any of his remains had been identified. Maynrad's family
decided to bury the remains that had been identified in a formal service.
Over 1,100 remains of victims have not been identified but are being kept for future testing when DNA is even
more sophisticated than it is now.

Work started recently on the Freedom Tower at the WTC in New York City. There were many design changes
the various parties wanted, including the family members of those killed on 9/11/01. The tower will not be as open
as was first planned but will still be a beautiful sight from the harbor into the Hudson River.
The memorial was not agreed upon by all but will be a true tribute to all those who died on September 11, 2001.
