The Statue of Liberty has been closed since September 11, 2001. It is scheduled to reopen to visitors in July
of 2004.
She stands graciously in New York harbour to tell all visitors this is the land of the free and the home of the
brave.
I awoke yesterday morning to a sight my eyes saw but my brain and heart refused to accept for the first few
minutes. My son called me to see if I was watching the news. We watched it together for a while. He is a
police lieutenant on a police force in GA. He lost many of his "brothers" yesterday. As many as 300 firemen
and policemen lost their lives. The numbers of dead in all the acts of terrorism is yet to be determined.
I watched the news for 12 hours yesterday. I surfed from one news station to another. I was hoping for a sign
of life but was met with more and greater destruction. The smoke and dust from the buildings on fire and
collapsing seemed like something from "Dante's Inferno". Today a view of the city was sent back from space.
It looked like a volcano had exploded in lower Manhattan. The ash and debris was two feet deep in some
areas.
Another building collapsed this evening, September 12, 2001. All the buildings in that area are on shaky
ground.
Our country has come to a stand still. No airplanes are in the air today except military planes. Commerce is at
a standstill. The stock market is closed till next week. My home page on Prodigy looks awry with all the 0's
beside the stock exchanges. Members of major companies were killed in the blasts yesterday. Some of the
biggest stock brokerage companies had their main offices in one of the WTC buildings. Many people from
their firms are missing.

Things are not much better today. The rescue workers are working feverishly to get to people who may yet be
alive. There was a miracle today to lighten peoples hearts. Five firemen were found alive in a SUV. Two got
out of the SUV without help. All five are alive! I found out late last night this is not true.
Another building may collapse. It is a skyscraper as well. It was being used as a triage and temporary morgue.
It was also being used as a headquarters for the rescue workers. They are evacuating the building as I write
this. I pray no more rescue workers are killed this day.
Some airports are now open for limited use. Please check with the FAA and your local airport to find out if
you can get to your destination today or if a love one will be home today.
Please feel free to use my message boards and chat rooms to contact your friends and relatives or just to talk
about the events of the last few days. We all need spiritual help and guidance. Pray for the citizens of New
York. Pray for those who have lost loved ones and those who do not yet know if they are living or dead. Pray
for the citizens of Washington, D C. Pray for the families of loved ones who have family and friends either
missing or dead.
We are a strong country in many ways. Send prayers to God and his son. Cloak our country in his protection.
Pray for the guidance of our leaders. Pray for America in one of the darkest times of its history.
